An exciting professional development opportunity for those age 16-25.
Work with a team of industry experts, led by award-winning director David Goodall, to develop your skills when working for film. Over the course of the week you will be led step-by-step through the process, culminating in a final sharing and group feedback session. Get hints and tips from the pros!
DAY ONE: Cold Read & the Casting
We’ll look at how to study sides before a casting. While focussing on the cold read scenario, where you have around 10 minutes to make decisions on how you will approach the character, the work in this section is transferable to studying scenes for any audition; enabling the reader to understand the scene and what is expected of them by the casting.
Morning: examining and performing scenes; discussing and re-performing.
Afternoon: a mock casting.
DAY TWO: Approaching the text
Looking at text with a view to performing scenes. Decisions to make and to avoid.
Morning: running through scenes for character decisions and clues.
Afternoon: rehearsing the scenes for filming.
DAYS THREE & FOUR: Ready for your close up...
All day: filming everyone's scenes with camera and boom. We’ll film scenes properly; moving from wide shots to close-ups. We’ll incorporate props, movement and stillness, and discuss how these are handled by actors. We’ll look at awareness of and reaction [if any] to mic, camera and crew. Each team will be filmed with the group involved in discussions/ Q&A on the filming, with the camera linked to a field monitor for discussion purposes.
DAY FIVE: Show and Tell
We’ll edit the scenes overnight and present a film show on Friday, allowing time for discussion on each scene - not really for performance critique, but for commentary on how performance/character/narrative have been affected by the camera and the sound.
COST: £200 payable in 1 or 2 instalments (2nd instalment is due by Monday 20 June).Find Out More
