The Creative Labs is a new, young writing initiative that aims to take four young writers from Inverclyde and, through the process of a six week workshop, develop their writing to the point where they will create their own original piece of writing for theatre. After these six weeks, each new, original short piece of theatre will have a rehearsed reading in front of an audience and recorded live for a podcast platform.
The workshops will take place between 17:00 to 19:00 on a Wednesday evening, in the Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock. The workshops will begin on the 30th of September and end on the 4th of November with a rehearsed performance on the 6th of November. The workshops are free for participants to attend.
Who’s Running It?
The workshop is being run by Inverclyde playwright Christopher Patrick. Christopher’s own writing has enjoyed audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (The Constant Soldier), and his short plays (The Carriage, Full Stop) have been performed in various venues around Glasgow, including The Tron and Wee Theaters Glasgow monthly event in Sloans. He also founded and runs Toasted Fiction, a site dedicated to the writer’s short pieces of fiction and is one of Scottish Youth Theatre’s Young Writers.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for young writers aged between 16-25 based in Inverclyde who wish to develop their writing skills and learn how to start developing their own original play. Ideally our participants will demonstrate a prior interest in writing and a commitment to developing their writing for the stage.
How To Apply
Send a one page description of your idea for a play, a short paragraph of why you would like to get involved in this project and a short sample of your writing.
Please Note: This workshop is for Inverclyde based writers only.
