THE IOLAIRE

  • Drama

It is 1918, the Great War is over. The men from Lewis and Harris were coming home on His Majesty's Yacht but the horror was not over for the islands. The loss of the ship on New Year's Day 1919, is one of the most tragic events to befall the Western Isles, as over 200 Lewis and Harris men were drowned in sight of Stornoway harbour lights. Through drama, Gaelic poetry and song the pupils will take us back to that black time in our history.

Performed by Stenhouse Primary School and Tynecastle High School in partnership with Iomairt Ghàidhlig Dhùn Èideann. Funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
